About the Instructor


As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Michelle Pedersen has been the Instructor/owner of Kumon Math & Reading Center of O'Fallon since December of 2011. Her education includes a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with emphasis in general and physical sciences and social science. She has also earned a Master's of Science in Special Education. Michelle began teaching in 1997 in a small Catholic school in rural Illinois and has since worked in other Catholic schools, rural and urban, public schools, and a number of charter schools in downtown St. Louis.

She decided to leave the teaching world in early January, 2011 to pursue a career in Kumon where she would be able to work with students more closely on a more individualized level. She believes completely in the Kumon Method of learning and loves owning her own business.

Training and Certification

Michelle Pedersen is certified by the state of Illinois to teach elementary classes K-5 and science and social studies grades 6-9. She is also certified to work with special education students K-12. In Missouri, she is certified to instruct early childhood, elementary classes K-5, and science and social studies 6-8.

She has taught for 15 years, experiencing every grade level and teaching every subject. Most of her experience is with kindergarten students.

Michelle is a certified Kumon Instructor having gone through extensive training with Kumon University.  She continues her professional development in the Kumon Method.
