My name is Karen Oi, instructor at Kumon of Brentwood. I would like to share our experience with you.
My association with Kumon started when our son was in grade school and he was not doing so well in math. We “found” a Kumon class in Nashville (this was pre-internet days) and it helped him a great deal, so we were very happy. However, we heard the bad news that the Kumon center he was attending was closing. After a good amount of discussion with my husband and son, I decided to start my own Kumon Center where we live -- in Brentwood.
Although I have BA and MBA degrees, I went through the training to learn the Kumon philosophy and the method in order to be certified to become an instructor.
It is truly satisfying to see children, including our own, improving their math and reading skills -- to reach their goals: to enable growing minds to achieve their full potential.
I am excited about the addition of the Junior Kumon. It is a program geared toward the math and reading starting from an early age.
I attended the Kumon 50th World-wide Anniversary Conference in Tokyo held in December 2008. It was just amazing to meet so many people with very similar experiences and enthusiasm.
