Claudia, 16: Instructor Kathy Burnett
When it comes to awards and accolades, Claudia’s achievements are more than noteworthy. Claudia started Kumon Math in Middleton, WI as a high school freshman and completed the program in less than two years. Now 16-years-old, Claudia has been recognized by numerous local and national organizations for her outstanding academic and musical abilities.
Last year, Claudia, a member of her school’s Varsity Math Team, received a perfect score on the math section of the SAT. She also was voted “Most Valuable Player” by her fellow band members which helped her earn the John Phillip Sousa Award, given to one student per school every year who displays superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty and cooperation.
On top of all her extracurricular activities, Claudia gives back to her community. In addition to working at the Kumon Center she attended, she volunteers at a local hospital and nursing home where she plays music for patients and residents.
“I am very glad I am able to participate in all of these activities by being organized,” Claudia said. “Because these activities add new dimensions to my life, I feel that these experiences make me satisfied and happy.”
Claudia’s mom, Chee, said Kumon helped her daughter with time management. “She wanted more help with math and found out about Kumon on her own,” Chee said. “She wanted to do Kumon to make sure she knew everything about everything. With Kumon, she got confidence, practice and now she is happy.”
