About the Instructor

Introduction

Kumon is an individualized program where each student progresses at their own pace. As a highly trained and certified Kumon Instructor, I serve as a mentor, guiding students through their work while providing direction, support, and encouragement. I closely monitor each student’s progress and design personalized lesson plans to ensure they advance smoothly and confidently at a pace that suits them. We tailor our approach to each student's specific needs—whether they require remedial support or advanced study—helping them build confidence, independence, and strong learning habits.

Like all Kumon Instructors, I am deeply passionate about education and committed to helping children reach their full potential.

Biography and Background

My name is Fan Long, and I have been the proud owner and instructor of the Agoura Hills Kumon Math and Reading Learning Center since April 2015. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with many bright and hardworking students in our communities. At Kumon, we go beyond improving math and reading skills—we cultivate discipline, strong study habits, and a lifelong love for learning. I believe that every child has the potential to excel, and with the Kumon Method, we help students build confidence and academic independence. I look forward to guiding your child on their learning journey.

Originally from Nanjing, China, I came to the U.S. to pursue graduate studies after earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994. I continued my education at Cornell University, earning a Master’s degree in Biology. Later, I obtained a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from Brandeis University.

My professional career began as a bioinformatics scientist, working in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries on the East Coast for eight years. After relocating to the West Coast, I transitioned to the financial sector, spending seven years in data analytics within the insurance and banking industries. My last corporate role was as Vice President of Analytics at Bank of America.

Before becoming a Kumon Instructor, I was a Kumon parent, witnessing firsthand how Kumon’s structured, step-by-step learning materials and self-learning philosophy benefited my own children. Inspired by the transformative impact of the Kumon Method, I became a certified Kumon Instructor in 2015. My mission is to extend these benefits—building a strong academic foundation and fostering independent learning—to as many children as possible.
