About the Instructor

Introduction

Kumon is an individualized program and each student progresses at their own pace. As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I monitor each student's progress and design individualized lesson plan so students can progress smoothly at their comfortable pace. Our staff members are well trained, either former Kumon students or academic excellent students who passed high level Kumon math and reading tests to become instructor assistants. We tailor to each student's specific need, whether the need is for remedial help or for advanced study. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

A native from Nanjing, China, I came to U.S. to pursue graduate study after receiving my BS degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994. I attended Cornell University as PhD candidate in Biology. With MS degree in Biology from Cornell University and MS degree in Software Engineering from Brandeis University, I worked as a bioinformactics scientist in biotech and pharmaceutical industries for 8 years on the east coast. After moving to the west coast, I worked in the insurance and banking industries in the data analytics area for 7 years with my last corporate role as vice president in analytics with Bank of America. I had been a Kumon mom before becoming a certified Kumon Instructor in 2015. I witnessed the benefits of Kumon’s step-by-step learning material and self-learning philosophy giving to my children. As a Kumon instructor, I am committed to extend Kumon’s benefits – a solid foundation and great study habits, to as many children as possible.
