Kumon Self-Learning and Creations with Rainbow Loom
Our students often take the self-learning skills built through their Kumon studies and apply them to other areas and interests. Here is a story from Rudradip, telling of his latest area of self-learning in his own words.
"I am Rudradip. I am six years and nine months old. I am a first grader. At Kumon I am doing C Math and BII Reading. Other than doing studies, I LOVE to create structures using ‘Rainbow Loom’. A few months ago my parents bought me a rainbow loom kit. It had a hook, a base with bar-pins and a few packets of rubber bands. I learnt to use rainbow loom from my friend, Rik, who taught me first how to make a single chain. The rest of the structures I learnt from watching Youtube videos. Now I know how to make different types of bracelets and charms. The simple ones I learnt to make first were: Fish tail, Inverted fish tail, zippy chain, French bread, Triple-single, Liberty twist, Ladder etc. Then I learnt bracelets with intermediate levels of difficulty, such as: Star fish, Star burst, Bow-tie, Rain drop, Three- and Four-pin Fish tail, heart bracelets etc. So far I have made some more difficult ones, such as, the Hexafish and Flower-power. Besides bracelets, I also can make Charms. The simple ones I made are called Banana and Lemon charms. The more difficult ones I made are called the Minion charms and the Puppy charms. Here are some of the pictures of bracelets and charms I have so far created."
