Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Thank You from Benita:
Benita completed the program in August of 2019. We received this note from her after her graduation:
"I wanted to say thank you for the past 7 years of working with you. It has definitely been a journey. A long, long journey. I’ve come so far from the 9 year old who once stood before you. When I first came to you, I was a complete wreck at math. I was using my fingers and toes to calculate simple addition problems. Now I’m easily acing a college-leveled course as a high schooler. But I have grown not only in my math skills but as a person as well. I have learned to persevere. You had me repeating each packet up to four times. Each time I completed a packet I had a better understanding of the concept. Although it was annoying at times, repetition helped me understand such complicated ideas. I learned to be a self-learner. Because I was doing packets by myself, I learned to teach myself. I no longer required someone else to walk me through each step. And even if I didn’t fully understand something, the Kumon helpers were always ready to help me. I also learned routine. On school days, I would wake up thirty minutes earlier just to do Kumon. And I can proudly say that throughout the 7 years I came every Wednesday and Saturday with a complete set of homework. It’s going to be very different not having to do my Kumon homework everyday. At least I get those thirty minutes of sleep back. I feel like with the completion of the Kumon Math Program a great, big chapter of my life has come to a close. I want to say thanks to both you and your team for helping me get here."
Congratulations to Benita! We are so happy with her success.
Aditya's 2021 College Acceptance:
Aditya came to Kumon as a young boy years ago and after years of working hard, completed both the Math and Reading program which is a huge accomplishment. Even moreso, he has recently been accepted into Cornell University for undergraduate studies! Aditya's mom says the work was not always easy, but with Miss Sonali's help, he has accomplished so much. We are so proud of Aditya.
