About the Instructor

Kumon Instructors are extensively trained and certified to serve as mentors who guide your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. They create an at-home study plan for your child in addition to monitoring classroom assignments while emphasizing the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. Students experience increased self-confidence and agency, thus becoming more self-reliant and self-managed. Kumon instructors emphasize a Growth Mindset to help students persist, learn from their mistakes, and self-reflect in their learning journey. Kumon believes that practice makes possibilities!

Meet Our New Instructor

Ms. Joann has worked in education for over 30 years, ranging from pre-school to high school to post-secondary education. As a lifelong learner, Ms. Joann has always been interested in literature, humanities, mathematics, and the sciences. After finishing graduate school, Ms. Joann served as a high school English teacher and community college writing instructor for 6 years. Joann transitioned into teacher education as a Senior Mentor at a distinguished teacher's college where she counseled teacher candidates in the undergraduate and graduate programs for Elementary Education. She graduated over 400 teacher candidates across the nation throughout her 13 years in this role. She also served concurrently as a Clinical Supervisor for teacher candidates in their student teaching experiences. As a trained Kumon Instructor, a Kumon parent, and a longtime Bend resident, Ms. Joann has seen the academic and character benefits of the Kumon program and is excited for the opportunity to support our community and education here in Bend.
