About the Instructor

Introduction

As an experienced educator, and as a trained and certified Kumon professional instructor, I serve as a mentor to your children to help them acquire the tools they need to tackle above level work independently and with confidence.  One of my first goals is for students to become good at their current school grade level and then slowly start working ahead of their school grade.  This means that they see material at the center before they see it at school thus giving them the edge and the confidence to perform well academically.

I provide your children with a nurturing environment, and the necessary direction, support and encouragement to do their Kumon work with ease and motivation.  I create an individualized study plan for students to ensure that they are working at their just right level, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and speed. These skills help many of my students increase self-confidence, and develop the “can do” attitude necessary to succeed in school and in life.  Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help your children succeed.

Biography and Background

My name is Cristina Acosta.  I have been a Kumon instructor for almost 15 years and have a vast experience as an educator. I opened my first Kumon center in Boca Raton in 1997, mine was one of the first Kumon centers to open in Florida.

After spending several years abroad, following my husband’s career in the US Air Force, I, my husband, and our son Christian, who was 6 years old at the time, returned to the US. We re-located near Princeton, New Jersey and had our first contact with Kumon there in the late 1980s.

I had pursued my teaching career both in the US and abroad and knew the importance of helping my son acquire a strong foundation in Math and English and felt Kumon was an excellent fit. Convinced of the excellence of the Kumon method through seeing Christian work comfortably and independently well beyond his school grade level, I decided to open my own center in Florida when the family relocated there in 1995.

I started my center in Boca Raton with 12 students partly for my son to continue with the program and partly because I wanted Kumon to help other students achieve the academic excellence my son had experienced. Today, Christian is pursuing a successful career as a Nuclear Engineer and I am successfully running two centers with almost 400 students.
