Student's Schedule:
• Students are scheduled to attend the centre once a week in half an hour timeslot.
• Students arriving at the centre less than 30 minutes prior to closing may be asked to pick up their work for that day and complete it at home.
• Students are encouraged to complete work every day of the week, including weekends and holidays, in order to make smooth progress, and build good work habits.
Registration, Tuition Fees and Payment Policy:
• There is no fee for the placement test or initial interview.
• Registration: A one-time registration fee for new students of $80.00 is due upon enrollment and is non-refundable.
• Materials Fee: A one-time materials fee for new students of $30.00 is due upon enrollment and is non-refundable.
• Tuition Fee: The monthly tuition fee per student per subject is $170.00
• Tuition is due on the 1st day of every month. The first month's tuition is due upon enrollment.
• Payments can be made by Pre-Authorized Debits (PAD) or post-dated cheques (Payable to Kumon Spring Valley).
• Tuition is charged for the Kumon Method and the use of the worksheets. The number of classes attended does not affect tuition. If you start between the 1st and 15th, a full month’s tuition is assessed. If you start from the 16th onward, a half month’s tuition is assessed. Beyond the first month, tuition is not pro-rated: if you leave the program at any time during the month, the full month’s tuition remains due. A $25 service charge applies to any rejected transaction or refund.
• We require 30 days’ notice to stop payment and to discontinue a student from the program. Further details relating to student absences are found in the Notice to Parents document.
Attendance and Absences:
• Students are permitted to take only one month’s absence per calendar year in both subjects. A second month’s absence (consecutive or not) will cause the student to lose their Kumon reward points, and they will have to pay the registration fee again.
• At least 24 hours is required if you cannot attend the next class in order for us to prepare work for the student in advance. Students are encouraged to complete Kumon worksheets on vacation, and we can adjust the workload accordingly. Please give us at least one week’s notice in order to prepare work.
• If the student is not able to attend class due to illness, work will be deferred until the next scheduled class day.
Classroom Code of Conduct:
• The Centre is a place of study and therefore requires a quiet atmosphere.
• Students are expected to behave in a respectful manner at the Kumon Centre. This includes using good manners, a quiet voice and not being disruptive. Students who are disruptive to the learning environment may be asked to leave the class.
• Due to allergies and sensitivities, no food or drinks are allowed in the centre or the parent waiting area.
• Class time is reserved for students, therefore parents are kindly asked to ask questions or schedule meetings outside of class time.
Statutory Holidays and Holiday School Closures:
• Kumon of Brampton - Spring Valley observes Canadian Statutory Holidays.
• Please note that each year, Kumon of Brampton - Spring Valley will be closed for 2 weeks during the Christmas holidays. Specific dates for these closures will be made available well in advance of the holiday period.
• School Closures due to Unforeseen Events: Snowstorms and power failures are examples of unforeseen events. Please call the centre prior to class if you are uncertain whether the centre is closed. The Centre’s voice message will be updated and an email will be sent to all parents with information about cancellation. This decision will be made a minimum of 3 hours in advance of the start of class.
**Students will be given a homework during the centre closure except for the unforeseen events, for which work can be arranged for pick up the next day.**
Continuous Learning:
• Kumon is a year-round program and the Centre operates 12 months a year. We encourage our students to attend throughout the year, including the summer, so that students may advance beyond their grade level as soon as possible.
• Kumon is not a “quick fix” program; therefore a minimum 12 month personal commitment is required.
Parent’s Role:
• Kumon is a family commitment. Please check that your child has completed their homework daily.
• Parents are encouraged to help their child get the most out of the Kumon experience by grading homework and ensuring that corrections are done before the next assignment is attempted. We can provide an Answer Book to facilitate the process. Grading is a 2-5 minute exercise, which demonstrates to your child that YOU are committed to Kumon and that it has an immeasurable impact on your child’s progress and dedication.
• Parents are NOT encouraged to help their child to complete Kumon homework. If your child cannot complete their work independently, please let Mrs. Bagri knows. Remember that Kumon’s main focus is independent learning.
Safety:
• The Spring Valley Kumon Centre does not take responsibility for student’s safety after they have completed their class work and leave the Centre.
• Parents are expected to wait in the waiting area for the entire time that their child is attending class. However, if you leave the centre, please ensure that you return before your child’s class work is completed to ensure your child’s safety.
• Parents of young children are requested to stay while their children are in class.
Communication:
• Your child’s progress is always our highest priority. We will send home student progress information after every achievement test, along with the achievement test results. Information of this type is sent through your child, so please check their blue Kumon case for communications to you.
• If you would like a progress report or meeting to discuss how your child is progressing, please let Mrs. Bagri know. Parent meetings are done by appointment outside of regular class hours. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail Mrs. Bagri if you need guidance related to Kumon or if you would like to share information on what you are observing at home.
• Please keep us informed of any changes to your e-mail address, phone numbers or emergency contact information.
• Planned centre closures are announced via email or center updates on our center website.
