About the Instructor

As an extensively trained and certified instructor, Katherine serves as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction,support and encouragement. She creates an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. In her 16+ years as a Kumon instructor she has helped many students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Katherine has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

The Bloomingdale Kumon Center opened in 1999. Encouraged by the success of her own children studying Kumon, she wanted to provide the same benefits to other children and families in the community. Her expertise in advancing students beyond grade level has earned her recognition by the Kumon Corporation, other instructors and most importantly the families she serves.

My name is Katherine Mandry and I will be your child's Kumon Instructor. I have been involved with Kumon for the past 24 years, initially as a Kumon Parent, and as a Kumon Instructor for the past 20 years. I opened the 1st Kumon Center in Brandon after seeing how beneficial Kumon was for my children, and realizing the closest Kumon at the time was too far for me and other Brandon area parents to travel long-term. I loved the Kumon program as a parent and I love it even more as an instructor. I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor I had 18 years of experience in engineering. I’ve worked with very notable engineering firms such as General Electric Space Systems, Lockheed Martin, and Hughes Aircraft. I ended my engineering career as a Technical Director for Honeywell Inc. in Clearwater, FL.

My Children & Kumon

My son Daniel had already enjoyed the benefits of his early Kumon studies. He was able to participate in various sports teams, played in the school band and was a National Merit Scholar. Daniel’s outstanding academic success with the Kumon program was very impressive and started my lifelong love of the program.

During my time at Honeywell, I noticed my daughter Kaysara was in need of the program. Slightly dyslexic, she was a struggling student. After one year with Kumon (at that time the closest center was 45 minutes from our home) that all changed. Kumon gave Kaysara the self confidence and solid foundation she needed, and has impacted her life academically as well as professionally, Kaysara became a top ranked national tennis player and an ‘A’ student working almost one year ahead of grade level. Her hard work, the skills and discipline she gained by doing her daily Kumon study, and daily tennis training led to her having full academic and sports scholarships offers at multiple universities.

My youngest daughter Kaylen is my hyper child. She started the program at four years old. She was reading and doing math at a second grade level by the time she was 5. As a gifted child she was both incredibly impressive and difficult to keep focused. Kumon gave her the ability to quickly complete her school assignments. Before graduating high school, Kaylen earned her Associates degree.
