About the Instructor

Introduction

Val was first introduced to Kumon by a friend who explained to her how beneficial the Kumon Method was for many different students. Since she opened her centre in October 1992, Val has helped many students, including students with special needs, achieve success in improving their math and reading skills.

Val creates an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and she emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of her students increase self-confidence, and thus become more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, Val has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Val

Before becoming a Kumon instructor, Val was working as a teacher/librarian at the Vancouver School Board. She completed her university education at the University of the West Indies and at the University of British Columbia. She holds certification in teaching, and librarianship.

Outside of Kumon, music is one of her main interests. She is currently an organist and choir director at her church.
