Hello Parents and Students!

My name is Nan Robinson and I am the Instructor of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Baltimore-Federal Hill. I am originally from Henan, China, where I grew up in a small village surrounded by lush green fields and a close-knit community. Education was always highly valued in my family, and I was fortunate enough to further my education with a bachelor's degree from an University in China. Before I left China, I taught economics at a local high school. I then went on to earn my MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park. After graduating, I began my career in finance and accounting at Kraft Foods and later moved to Citigroup.

My first exposure to Kumon was in 2008 when I enrolled my daughter in the Kumon Math and Reading programs. She started third grade in a new school system, and we soon realized that she was falling behind on the curriculum. Once we enrolled her in Kumon, she caught up on the curriculum at school and soon joined her school’s accelerated math and English programs. She then went on to attend Harvard University where she earned her bachelor’s in statistics.

Aside from enrolling my daughter in Kumon, a company I worked for offered a volunteer program where I had the opportunity to tutor at a high school in Baltimore city for a few months in 2019. It was an eye-opening experience--it reminded me of my passion for teaching, but also highlighted the huge disparity in education in Baltimore.

My experience tutoring in the city inspired me to open a Kumon learning center. The learning structure of the Kumon program instills the discipline and confidence in children to be successful in school and reach their full learning potentials. I hope that our center reaches as many students as possible to provide them with an equitable opportunity and potential for success in their future.
