About the Center

Introduction

Welcome to our Kumon Math and Reading Center. For more than 60 years, Kumon’s after-school academic enrichment program has helped children achieve success worldwide. We strive to instill in children the desire to achieve and the motivation to learn on their own. Whether your child is seeking enrichment, needs help catching up or is just beginning his or her academic career, Kumon is designed to help him or her develop a love of learning.

Students advance through the program at their own pace. Our emphasis on individualized learning helps your child become focused, motivated and self-reliant. We monitor each child’s progress to ensure comprehension before moving on to a new concept. With a strong academic foundation, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, your child has the potential to achieve whatever he or she desires.

The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. For more information about the Kumon Math Program.

The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. For more information about the Kumon Reading Program.

Students come to the Center two days each week. One subject student attends class for approximately 20 – 30 minutes; two subjects students attend class for approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour.  Please remember that this time may vary depending on the student’s level, age, and the worksheets assigned.

All students are required to schedule their arrival time.  Students must arrive on time to complete their assignments for the day.  To maintain an atmosphere conducive to study, we request that only students enter the Kumon Main Class Room.

Parents are welcome to use the waiting area during the student's center time.

Kumon is a year-round program of study. Although, we do observe some national holidays, as well as a break in the summer and at the end of December, specific dates of center closings will be posted in the parent waiting area.

Kumon homework is assigned 365 days per year unless otherwise requested at registration or at least one week before any adjustment request.  Parents may request weekends or vacations free from Kumon study one week in advance.

Learning environment:

Creating an environment conducive to learning is very important.  Please keep the center and waiting area quiet so students can concentrate as they study.  We ask that parents and siblings stay in the waiting area.

You may request a meeting to discuss your child’s Kumon progress.  Please note that meetings will not be scheduled during class time.  Please email, text, or call for an appointment.  (A “quick” question for your instructor on class days can disrupt the class.)

No cell phones, games, music, food, and drinks are allowed in the classroom.

Workload and homework:

Students learn from doing homework and correcting their own mistakes daily. We see significant progress while the student grades and corrects the worksheet daily. The instructor determines the number of worksheets assigned, which will be around 20 minutes per day.

It is important as a parent/guardian, you give your child the space and time for doing homework. We call it “Kumon time”, this time needs to be daily and consistent. i.e., 4 pm to 5 pm or the same as class time.

Parental feedback regarding a student's work is always welcome.

Attendance and punctuality:

The center’s staffing plan is based on your child's scheduled time.  Please follow your scheduled time, and if there are any changes, please let the center know.  Learning about dedication and commitment is an important part of the Kumon Method of Learning, even at an early stage.  Please make sure that your child(ren) come to the center on time.

Absences:

There are no make-up classes.

Sick or Emergency: Please contact the center to let us know if you want to pick up the assigned homework.  Homework pick-up is prepared only upon request.

Vacations:

Please let us know at least two weeks before long-term vacation plans where work will be taken to ensure that your child’s Kumon work can be prepared and ready for pick-up.

The scheduled monthly tuition payments remain the same for the vacation months requested.

We advise students not to take a break from their regular Kumon routines on long trips.

Withdrawal policy:

Please give us a minimum of 30 days advance notice if you wish to withdraw your child from the program, before your final tuition payment (last bill). (Expect one more regular tuition charge once your withdrawal notice is submitted.)  Note: Monthly tuition fees are non-refundable, and there are no partial monthly payments as stated in the payment policies.

Tuition fee will be collected until a “Stop Notice” has been received, regardless if the student has not attended class. Your account will remain open and active until the “Stop Notice” has been received.

Please send us an email to withdraw from the program. The written notification is required.

Communication policy:

Continual communication between parents, students, and the instructor is important to the success of the program.  The best way to contact us is by email at [email protected].

Achievement Test results will be sent when the student passes the test. You may also request a meeting anytime to discuss your child's progress. Please note that meetings will not be scheduled during class time.

We welcome your feedback.  Please don't hesitate to ask questions, share concerns, or generally let us know how everything is going.
