Christian - An Early Learner Success Story
Christian began his Kumon journey before kindergarten and now, at 16, he works at Kumon of Cascade on some weekends. He is a Double Program Completer, having completed the Reading Program in 2018 and the Math Program in 2021. He participates in football, basketball and track during the school year and has taken online summer courses through Harvard University, University of Michigan, and Michigan State.
As a sophomore, Christian is taking AP Calculus and calls the Kumon Math Program “the real deal”, because his classmates are learning about derivatives and integrals for the first time, and he’s already mastered the concept. He credits Kumon with teaching him how to manage his time productively. While unsure about what he wants to study, he plans to eventually attend the University of Michigan.
With all the support they provided, Christian’s parents also deserve congratulations for Christian’s success. Their support ranged from providing words of praise and encouragement and grading his daily assignments, to planning their days to leave enough time to complete his homework. They knew they wanted him to complete both programs and Kumon became a non-negotiable part of their routine.
Beyond math and reading skills, Christian’s parents wanted him to develop grit. Grit can be explained as a passion and perseverance for a long-term goals, and involves working strenuously towards challenges and maintaining effort and interest over years. Grit is also what sets two people of equal talent apart from one another.
Christian is a hard worker and has definitely set himself apart from the rest!
