About the Instructor

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

My name is Mohan J. Somnay. I am the Certified Kumon Instructor at Kumon of Chester. My background is in engineering. I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India. Then I secured MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ. I taught undergraduate Physics and Math at NJIT while attending grad. school. After graduation I worked for the aerospace industry for 14 years and for the Financial Industry for 8 years.

Children have always been a constant source of delight and fascination for me. After my daughter had attended Kumon for a year with amazing results, I decided to become a Certified Kumon Instructor. Very extensive training by Kumon North America allowed me to open Kumon of Chester in May 2007.
