Hello parents and prospective students!
I am Teatash De, the Instructor of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Columbia - East.
I completed my Bachelors in Sociology from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, India. Upon completion of my schooling, I got married and migrated to the US. In the first few years, I earned my Masters in Applied Medical Sociology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I was working as a Montessori teacher prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor. I thoroughly cherished the times while working with the young minds and watching them grow. As a teacher, I saw the children bloom through our care, support, and curriculum. I was happy that I could make a difference in our community by teaching them.
I firmly believe that everyone has a calling - and mine has been to help children learn. As I was looking for the correct opportunity to be able to pursue my cause, I came across Kumon. The Kumon principles are closely associated with the Japanese "Kaizen" or "continuous improvement" that was also advocated strongly by Dr. Edward Deming, the great Engineer, Mathematician and Statistician from Connecticut. The program attracted me greatly not only because of the amazing curriculum that helps advance children but also because of the discipline and composure it instills.
I firmly believe that the children will benefit tremendously through the educational enrichment from an excellent and advanced program such as Kumon. The discipline and structure of the Kumon Method of Learning will not only help them to become confident on Math and Reading but contribute in their overall success.
