Hannah's Story
"The Kumon program has helped my special needs daughter greatly. She has mild Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, and a hand-writing disability. Even with accommodations, she always struggled in math and science classes. Tutoring helped but did not increase her understanding enough to be successful. By the time she entered middle school, her deficiency really showed and she failed in math. A new Kumon Center opened up near our home and we decided to try it out. We worked with Devayani Shankar and she was able to administer the Kumon program in an adaptive way to accommodate my daughter's disabilities. Through testing, she found and isolated the cause of my daughter's math struggles. This was exciting. We discovered that she never mastered the "carry over" of triple digit subtraction, which in turn affected her division skills. Once we were able to work through mastering that skill, math came much easier and my daughter's confidence grew immensely. It's been two years since we have been with this program and my daughter is now working towards Algebra 1 goals for 9th grade. All I can say to that is "Wow!! What a miracle."
"This program has given my daughter the opportunity to stay on a diploma track for high school. This is HUGE since many special needs kids get Certificates of Completion instead. For my daughter, she has aspirations to go to college and eventually become an English/History teacher for Jr. High. Kumon is helping her achieve her dream!"

"Since Arnav started attending Kumon class under the able guidance of Devayani Shankar, he has made remarkable improvement in his vocabulary. Our son has been doing Kumon for the past year. We've seen a lot of positive changes in him. We attribute the changes to Kumon. I really like going to Kumon. I take math and reading, and I am really proficient/sufficient in both of the subjects. Just give me any addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or negatives problem and as long as I write it down, I can complete it or solve it (thanks to you!) as long as the multiplication, division or squares problems don't contain decimals.

Before i started the Kumon Program, I wasn't that good in math. I got D's and C's in the subject. I almost failed, but with the help of Kumon, I went from D student to A student, in such little time. Plus, doing Kumon made me feel smarter and that gave me more confidence. With this new found confidence from Kumon, I made a lot more friends, which made me a whole lot happier.

"So in the very first time I entered Kumon, I was slow at Math, which is one of the reasons why my mom put me in the program. And in the second day, a teacher told me the first thing I need to do every time I enter Kumon. That same day, I did multiplication tables which was very easy and mastered in in 3rd grade, but I was still slow. Also for language, I forgot what I did and never knew why I had to do that in the first place. As days went on, I practiced and practiced, and sometimes, I got help from the Instructor. But in the last 3 weeks, I am beginning to be very fast at math and able to finish Kumon in a short time. Way back it took me 2 hours to finish Kumon, but now I am like the Flash!!"

The reason I am writing this letter is to formally thank you for being such a great Instructor this past year and a half. You were patient enough to tolerate my Level C moody 8th grade self, who would sulk in every Wednesday and Friday and never fully pay attention to her work. You encouraged me to keep up the good work as I slowly climbed the ladder of levels D, E, F. You put up with my scrutinizing eyes as I often claimed the work in your binders was incorrect, as well as hectic inattentive me during my short-lived track season. Thank you for always reminding me that I can do anything, and for telling me time and time again that I am good at Math and that I should not doubt myself. Thanks so much. I might not always show it but you are one of my favorite mentors and I hope our paths cross again. Hey, maybe I will apply for a job when I get a hang of this whole math thing....
