About the Instructor

Introduction

Hello! My name is Shalini Gupta and I am the instructor at the North Delta Kumon Centre. I first became interested in Kumon when I enrolled my young daughter in a Centre when we were temporarily living in Nanaimo in 2003 and in 2007, I enrolled my son in the program and was so pleased with the impact it made on their success in school that I decided to open up a Centre of my own.

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

I have a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education Degree from the University in India. As a teacher who truly loves math, I am impressed by the beauty, logic and linearity of the Kumon Math Program. As a mom, I appreciate the way the Kumon Reading Program builds from concepts of simple phonics and whole language through putting together words, then sentences, then paragraphs, ultimately challenging the student to read quickly for comprehension, and then to be able to summarize and critique that which she/he has read.

I am the mother of two children who were enrolled in local schools and my family and I have resided in the Vancouver area for over 19 years. I sincerely care about the education of the students in the Surrey and Delta  communities and  I am committed to helping them become the best students they are capable of being.
