About the Instructor

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

My name is Sonya and I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I grew up in a very small town between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. I have been married to my husband, Himesh, for 7 years now and we have a little puppy, Isaac. I love to read, rock climb, travel, bake, and spend time with friends and family.

I went to the University of Oklahoma and received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education and went on to complete my Master's in Reading Education. I taught in the classroom for 6 years with a range of kids from Kindergarten up to 6th grade and from all different types of backgrounds. I absolutely love the uniqueness of what each child brings. I have been with Kumon since 2018 and am the owner and director of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Edmond-West. Although, I loved being in the classroom, Kumon allows me to individualize lesson planning for each student, help students become self-learners and helps me build confidence in each child.
