Steve earned three college degrees in History, from UC Berkeley, Northwestern, and UCLA. He studied Spanish from middle school through college, then Zulu and Afrikaans in college and graduate school with the hope of doing research in South Africa. However, Steve found more success and fulfillment in teaching high school and creating literacy materials for special education students.
After a decade of teaching and 15 years of editing educational materials, Steve followed his own sons' lead and took an interest in Kumon. Justin and Nicolas both studied and worked at the El Cerrito Kumon for several years, and now their dad is happy to continue the tradition of individualized instruction offered there.
