About the Instructor

Introduction

I am excited to have the opportunity to help students develop confidence, effective study habits, and a strong academic foundation. My assistants and I will encourage and support your children in their personal journeys, whether they need help with their studies or want to advance beyond expectations. I will continually monitor their work and make adjustments to better serve their goals and abilities.

Biography and Background

SteveShea2022

Steve earned three college degrees in History, from UC Berkeley, Northwestern, and UCLA. He studied Spanish from middle school through college, then Zulu and Afrikaans in college and graduate school with the hope of doing research in South Africa. However, Steve found more success and fulfillment in teaching high school and creating literacy materials for special education students.
After a decade of teaching and 15 years of editing educational materials, Steve followed his own sons' lead and took an interest in Kumon. Justin and Nicolas both studied and worked at the El Cerrito Kumon for several years, and now their dad is happy to continue the tradition of individualized instruction offered there.

Steve has trained for a  year to earn certification as a Kumon Instructor and will complete his study and qualifications this calendar year.
