Lily Chen has been the Instructor of Kumon of Ellicott City-Normandy since 2001. With over 20 years of experience as a leader, educator, and businesswoman, she has served various roles and instructed a wide variety of students. It was her experience with her son, in which she was a Kumon parent herself, that inspired her to open her own Kumon learning center with the belief that more children can benefit from the Kumon experience. As a Kumon parent, she saw her son develop an established routine, foster critical thinking skills, and become an independent learner. Being able to connect with families, providing the best educational support, and promoting an optimal learning environment for all students is her top priority.
Lily Chen received a Bachelor's degree in English from Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan. She also received her Master's of Education in Community Counseling from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) in College Park, Maryland. Before becoming an Instructor at Kumon, she taught Mandarin Chinese at Mei-Hwa Chinese School in Maryland. In addition, she continues to learn about the Kumon study method by meeting with other local instructors about ways to improve the Kumon learning experience for all students.
