About the Instructor

Introduction

Greetings! Welcome to my Kumon Math and Reading Center of Englewood! As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Carol Vaughn

My name is Carol Vaughn, and I have been a Kumon Instructor for the past 22 years. Kumon is truly the program that looks at each child individually, and lesson plans to meet those needs.  Throughout the years, working with children ages 3 1/2 through high school has been extremely rewarding for me, as I have watched them grow to heights that they, or their parents, never thought they could achieve! When we can start where the child's first weak point is, we can give each child an individualized plan and we move up from there. But please know, that even though students spend a lot of time mastering basic skills, Kumon's goal for each child, is long range. We want to see excellence in self-learning by the time they reach high school math or reading.

My love for wanting to nuture the academic success of children goes back to a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from CU Boulder. I substitute taught in the Cherry Creek and Littleton School Districts for many years and learned so much from watching kids. What was most disturbing to me at that time was that the kids didn't have mastery of their basic facts in math, the tools that they needed to be comfortable doing higher level math. Everyday Math, which was the math curriculum in many of our school districts at that time (and until recently) focused on many and varied concepts, but I felt it didn't train the skills to get there!

About that time, I was seeking a program for one of my own 4 children - enter Kumon! I was delighted to see a program that focused on training skills, and then taking students into application levels that could reach far beyond their grade level. I saw confidence being built early on, and a level of mastery that could serve them in any course that they would tackle.

I invite you to further investigate the Kumon Program to see what it might do for your child. A free placement test will tell me where I would start them in the program, and that information is shared with you at that time. Kumon is a partnership program. It works because parents and instructor have a common goal, and we work together to meet that goal. Please contact me to schedule a testing appointment, I look forward to meeting you!
