About the Instructor

Introduction

The Goal of True Education

Vidya Nagarajan decided to combine her passion for education and love for children to make a difference in her community. She is the Director of Kumon Novi West and Kumon Farmington-Grand River.

She opened Kumon Math and Reading Center of Farmington-Grand River with the promise that every student she meets will be given the opportunity to develop a love for learning. With the combined strength of her team, she looks forward to reaching the community of Farmington and Farmington Hills and develop better learners.

Vidya believes that education is to the mind what food is to the body - the basic fiber of one's being. Unlike food, thankfully, there is no such thing as 'too much education'. In fact, the more you know, the more you realize how much you don't know! She strongly believes that non-traditional methods of education are just as important as the traditional ones - from working with your child at home, doing fun activities together, to enrolling them in Kumon.

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, she serves as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. She creates an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. Like all Kumon Instructors, she has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children of all ages become confident and independent learners. Kumon not only lays a strong foundation for academic success, but also instills the value of discipline, intrinsic motivation, and self-learning in children.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education".

Biography and Background

Vidya is a compulsive learner, with a passion for acquiring knowledge and solving problems. So strong and incessant is her thirst for learning that not a day goes by without her doing something to quench it - a crossword puzzle, reading the newspaper or the book she is currently on, playing board games with her kid, etc. And it is this love of learning that inspired her to become a Kumon Director/Instructor.

Her educational background is testament to her love of learning. Vidya has a degree in computer engineering, truly loves math, and is impressed by the beauty, logic and linearity of the Kumon Math Program. She appreciates the way the Kumon Reading program builds from concepts of phonics to comprehension and critique.

Her corporate experience in various business, analytical, and management roles provides her with a strong professional background and the confidence to succeed in a competitive environment.

Being a mom for the last seventeen years has added immense skill sets to her repertoire, which she leverages as a Kumon Instructor. Some key realizations are that children have enormous potential that is waiting to be harvested, and that every child learns differently. When coached in a way that fits their learning style, children's minds, like sponges, imbibe every morsel of knowledge around them.

She is the mother of a high schooler daughter enrolled in one of the local schools who completed both Math & Reading Programs by middle school and has experienced incredible academic success thanks to Kumon. Her daughter will be attending University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Vidya is proud to have nurtured several reading and math program completers at her center. She is confident that she can leverage her love for learning, desire to succeed, proven communication skills, and professional experience to be a dedicated Kumon instructor in the community. Her family has resided in the Novi-South Lyon-Farmington area for over 22 years.

Training and Certification

I have been a Kumon Director/Instructor for over 12 years and have undergone extensive training at Kumon University to become a certified Kumon Instructor. I truly believe in the Kumon philosophy since it is very close to the way I learned it as a child - through constant practice. I have also done many center visits to learn from veteran instructors in the area.

I am also certified in the software system that I will use to make lesson plans, maintain worksheet completion records, and monitor students' progress.

I have completed all of the levels of the Kumon curriculum in math and reading, through which I have gained valuable insight into the learning process of students. I do worksheet study every day, just as I would expect my students to. There is a method to the levels and worksheets, and I would really like my students to see how the worksheets become more enjoyable as you progress through them faster and faster.
