About Your Instructor
Pamela Kozak
In October 2007, I opened Kumon of Guelph South. Since then I have been guiding eager students in the community. Kumon allows students the extra time to practice and master their skills in Math and Reading or provides a challenge for students who are eager to learn. Either way, improved focus and daily study habits are developed which will help them throughout their education journey. Kumon provides materials to develop skills in Math and Reading, starting from young learners (3 years old) up to advanced levels.
To develop my skills and stay up to date in the field of instruction, I frequently attend professional development seminars and conferences. I presented at the 2014 Kumon North America conference which was held in Anaheim, California. The topic of my presentation, The Path to Intentional Instruction, discussed the importance of using observation and targeted instruction to ensure that students progress smoothly throughout the program. I also presented at another Kumon North America conference in Chicago, Illinois in 2019. The topic was Early Learner Instruction. I spent 2 years participating in an Early Learning Pilot project leading up to the conference and presented my findings to all of the Instructors in attendance. Most recently, I was one of three Canadian Instructors selected to help develop best practices for Hybrid learning to proactively do business during a global pandemic.
I am dedicated to the Kumon method because I have seen how effectively it builds confidence and changes the way students feel about Math and Reading. I am reminded of a young girl who joined my Kumon Centre in October a few years ago. When I met this student, she said that math was her least favourite subject. She told me she felt defeated in math class at school. She started at a low level because she was counting on her fingers. She worked hard and was dedicated to strengthening her abilities. Approximately 15 months later, she arrived to the Centre holding her report card with a big wide smile. All of her hard work had made a big difference! She told me that math was now her favourite subject. She had scored an A in math and no longer struggled the way she used to. This is why I love my job, seeing the transformation of students overcoming their weakness and developing a high level of confidence that affects their grades as well as their feeling and interest level in Math or Reading.
As a former Kumon parent, I know that Kumon really works! My three children studied both Math and Reading, developing strong, independent skills. All three of them entered the post secondary programs of their choice, and are employed in careers that make them happy.
I am looking forward to guiding your child’s development and celebrating their success at Kumon of Guelph South. My goal is to apply my 20 years of knowledge and experience that I have accumulated working as an educator to bring your child the best supplemental education possible.
