About the Instructor

Introduction

Victor Fung

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Victor Fung-A True Champion
Victor Fung

Hello and Welcome to Kumon Irvine-Northwood!  My name is Victor Fung, and I am your Kumon Math and Reading Instructor.  I am the instructor at the Kumon of Irvine-Northwood location and have been involved with Kumon nearly all my life.  I believe Kumon is what gave me the necessary skills to achieve great success both academically and in my professional career.

I grew up in Laguna Hills, California and attended Laguna Hills High School.  I was the Salutatorian for my class in high school and I always found mathematics and science subjects to be very enjoyable and easy to understand.  Yet still, as a young boy my parents took my siblings and I to study Kumon at our local Kumon center.  I studied and worked with Kumon ever since I was very young from elementary school, through junior high school, and all the way up throughout high school.  The Kumon program and method allowed me to not only further reinforce my understanding of basic mathematics, but it helped me excel far beyond my regular school curriculum.  And it helped me to achieve all the successes that I have accomplished in my professional career as an adult.

I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Business Administration.  I believe the Kumon program helped to reinforce a very strong basic mathematics foundation that helped me to excel in my university years.  Kumon also gave me lifelong skills such as discipline, perseverance, attention to detail, goal setting, an appreciation for hard work, and Kumon also gave me the skills necessary to achieve great success in both my academic career and in my life.  Not only did the Kumon method help me to get accepted to UCLA and all the other schools I applied for but it also helped me to get accepted to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most challenging and prestigious universities in the world.

While I was studying at UCLA I was headed towards the medical field and was aiming to go to Dental School, but my love for Ballroom Dancing was very strong and I felt it to be a calling for me.  I have been a Ballroom Dancer all my life and started dancing at the young age of 8 years old.  I love dancing and I knew it was my passion at a young age and I knew that I wanted to pursue a competitive Ballroom Dancing career.  So, after I graduated from UCLA I chose to pursue my passion for Ballroom dancing and made a career for over 27 years as a Professional Ballroom Dancer.  I became the World’s leading Professional Ballroom Dancer winning all the major Professional Ballroom Championship titles throughout the world and I became one the greatest Ballroom Dancing Champions from the United States ever in its history.  Ballroom dancing gave me the opportunity to travel all around the world, meeting people from all different countries and backgrounds, and learning about all different cultures.  I have been to over 30 different countries and have become one of the greatest Ballroom Dancers ever in its history.

Kumon has always been an integral part of my life.  My mother is a Kumon instructor and has been for over 26 years.  She has owned multiple Kumon centers and has taught and mentored hundreds of children.  She is my biggest motivator and role model.  In addition, my younger sister also has gone through the Kumon program just like myself and owns a Kumon center as well.  Kumon has been such a big part of our family for many years and continues to play a major role in our lives.  Now, I'm returning back to Kumon to help the next generation of students and children achieve their academic goals and lifelong dreams through the Kumon program.  I believe the Kumon program and method will help to play an integral part in a child's schooling and future as it has done so for me.
