Biography and Background

Instructor

Education is the most important gift and the best investment from a parent to a child. It was my best asset as a newcomer in Canada. In today's world, it is essential not only to have the right knowledge, but also the right skill set to put the knowledge to good use throughout life. I was lucky enough to be given that gift and now I am lucky enough to be able to share it with my children and all my students.

I have first-hand experience in post-secondary education at the undergraduate and post-graduate level in Canada and internationally. I am the only bilingual instructor in the West End. In addition to being a certified Kumon Instructor, I have an Honors B. Sc. in Physics and a M. A. in Econometrics, as well as being TESOL certified.  Most of my education was generally Math intensive. Realizing the crucial importance of formal training in language in order to communicate clearly, efficiently and professionally in all aspects of life, I perused and acquired a certification in TESOL in 2016. That advanced knowledge in both Math and English enables me to guide my students exactly as the Kumon method intended, in an individualized way that is suited to their level, ability and learning style.

I am also a long-term Kumon parent of three Kumon program completers, all of whom are successful adults now. Working with children has been a life-long passion. I started my journey as a Kumon parent with my first child at the age of 4.  Having seen how the Kumon program changed his behaviour, learning speed and skill set, I enrolled my other two children once they turned 3. Kumon was a standard in our household for close to two decades until my youngest child graduated from the program. It was not always easy or smooth, but it was absolutely worth it!!

With that perspective, I appreciate and understand the parent's perspective and contributions. Kumon is a team program comprised of centre, parents and students.  The parents at home are essential to the success of the students. Parents always have to juggle many hats: supervise, guide, comfort, inspire, motivate, praise, encourage, communicate, coach, discipline, etc.  The list is endless!!  I have worn all those hats myself and will always remember how challenging it was at times. Giving up was not an option for me...

Today's students are navigating a rapidly changing world, with technology playing an increasingly significant role in their lives. They are adapting to new ways of learning and communicating, which presents both opportunities and challenges. Despite these changes, many students are demonstrating resilience, creativity, and a strong desire to make a positive impact on their communities. It is important for both educators and parents to collaborate and support them in their journey, providing guidance and encouragement as they develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. The Kanata South Kumon Centre offers Kumon Connect as a new and great tool to do Kumon by employing technology. Rest assured parents, it is not passive screen time!!

Armed with my experience as an educator, extensive knowledge of Math and English, my knowledge of and training in the amazing Kumon program, my experience as a parent; I continue use all of those tools to guide my students.  Students come to us for different reasons and to reach a variety of goals. I am proud to have their trust and am always striving to help them achieve their goals.
