About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, Phillip Lieu serves as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. He creates an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and emphasizes the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of his students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, Phillip has a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

MrPhillip

With a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Education from the University of Hawai’i and a teaching license from the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board, Mr. Phillip has taught in local public schools and at the college level at Kapiolani Community College. In 2012, Mr. Phillip established the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Kapolei - West where he is a Certified Kumon Instructor and the Center Director.  


As a father and educator, Mr. Phillip uses his extensive training and experiences to develop students to reach their full potential with many achieving academic levels beyond their current grade level. Through individual lesson plans and a commitment of 30 minutes per day he builds confidence in his students. Being able to set their path toward fulfilling the aims of the Kumon Program to be able to do high school math with ease and to read critically and fluently is something he truly enjoys. As a father it has been invaluable to see how the method strengthens character and independence.
