About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

My name is Margaret and I am from Austin, Texas.

When I was in first grade I participated in math Kumon. From the success that I had through the Kumon Program I developed a love of math.

After graduating from high school I moved to Utah and attended Utah Valley University.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, graduating summa cum laude, in 2009. Math education was my favorite class. The emphasis for successful learning in math is to let the students solve the problems on their own, with the teacher acting as an assistant in their learning. When a child solves a problem on their own they have an ownership of that skill, and will progress confidently as they learn higher level skills.

I taught 5th grade at Wasatch Elementary in Provo, Utah. In my experience as a teacher I learned how important the basics of reading and mathematics are. I had a few students who struggled with 5th grade concepts; these students would have been more successful if they would have had a solid foundation of the basic skills in math and reading.

After teaching I spent four years as a private math tutor; tutoring students from third grade through college. In August 2013, I joined the Kumon corporate team and have worked as Instructor in four centers across two states.

I am very excited to now be the owner of Kumon of Katy - Cinco Ranch East and provide the families in our community with the Kumon Method!
