About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Sheela Singh

My name is Sheela Singh. I am from Houston, TX. I learned of Kumon in 2001 when I enrolled my 2 and half year old son. He completed the reading program and did math all the way up to high school. I have seen firsthand how the program works and the role it plays in a child's learning ability by developing both self-learning and work skills.

I was invested so much in this that I couldn't let go of the opportunity that arose when this Kumon location became available. I quit my full-time day job and began my journey with Kumon to become a certified Instructor.

I absolutely love working with kids, and it brings me joy when I see their growth, especially when they start as early learners (age 3-5).

Through assessment of both accuracy and speed of the student’s classwork and homework as well as through observation of student work skills demonstrated in class, we ensure that each student is at the appropriate level and pace of study to maintain challenge and motivation. My goals as an Instructor are to help each student achieve his/her full potential in Math and Reading, build self-confidence, and develop a love of learning.

Training and Certification

I have a Ph.D. in molecular biology and biotechnology. Graduated from India and came to the US about 21 years ago to pursue my passion for research at MD Anderson Cancer Center for about 18 years.
