About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Lodi is led by Cynthia Hsieh, a former Kumon parent and certified Kumon Instructor. Before starting Kumon of Lodi, Ms. Hsieh spent two decades teaching research skills and information literacy in various colleges and universities in the Midwest and California. Her peer-reviewed paper “Problem-based learning for engineering students: an Evidence-based comparative study” was honored by the world’s largest academic journal publisher Elservier as one of its Top Cited Articles for the period of 2007~2011.

A long-time education advocate, her interest and experience in K-12 education was derived from her concerns about her daughter’s education and research interests in active learning and concerns about education of underprivileged children. Her experience in higher education also enabled her to witness first-hand the massive academic gap between secondary and higher education. As a former Kumon parent, she truly believes the Kumon Method, which advocates several core values of learning that include speed, discipline, accuracy, mastery, and self-learning, is the key to students’ academic and life-long success.
