About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom/virtual assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

Kit Yuen Certified Instructor
Kit

Greetings! My name is Mr. Kit Yuen and I am the owner and certified Instructor of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Madison, located at 10 Elmer Street in Madison, NJ. I am excited to be a part of the Madison community and I will contribute to make Madison an even better town to live and work in!

Kumon Learning Centers are all over the world and the dream of the founder, Mr. Kumon, was to bring individualized learning to everyone. The Kumon Method was born from the love of a mother and a father for their grade-school child who was struggling in Math. Mr. Kumon, known to favor working smarter and not harder, developed worksheets for his son, Takeshi, to complete on his own. Every night after school and dinner his son would spend hours doing math exercises. At first the exercises were easy and Takeshi would complete them in less than an hour. Eventually they became more difficult, and soon he was doing math problems that were 2 years above his grade level! Mr. Kumon realized that if his worksheets could help his child, who was not terribly gifted, then they may help other children as well. So, he made them available to other children in the neighborhood and soon (relatively speaking), he was opening centers and helping children around the world!

I truly believe in this Method and believe it will help children as young as 3 years old. The Kumon Method develops confidence and promotes self-learning in children. It helps children in the subjects of Math and Reading. By completing the program in Math, a child will build the critical skills needed to complete and master Calculus. By completing the program in Reading, a child will build the critical comprehension skills needed to master high school literature. These programs build incrementally on the successful completion of each worksheet. These programs do not mirror what is taught in school and in no way, replace the formal education provided by the school system.

Some background on myself:

I was born and raised in New York City as a first generation Chinese-American. I have lived in New Jersey for the past 30 years. I currently live in Central NJ with my wife, Wai and two children, Nicholas and Aja. I graduated from Baruch College in NYC with Cum Laude honors and a Business Administration degree in Accounting. At an early age, my parents instilled in me the importance of a good education. At a young age, we enrolled Nicholas and Aja into various tutoring programs and also instilled the importance of education and doing well in school.

Our success stories to date:

Nicholas graduated May 2021 from Kean University. Nic earned a BS STEM degree within the accelerated honors program, with Major in Mathematics and completed his Masters in Secondary Education on a five year full scholarship. Nic is a certified NJ State High School Math teacher and also a Kumon Certified Instructor. He has worked along side of me since we opened our doors in Madison. Our center is operated by two Kumon Certified Instructors and 2 State Certified Teachers. Ms. Sabrina has also been with us since we opened our doors and has her Masters in Early Learning and Literature from Rutgers University.

Aja is a Junior in FDU with a 75% scholarship, working towards a 5 years Master in Marketing and Business Management. She is our Operations Lead helping us run the day to day operations and greeter at the front desk.

Both children, my wife and Ms. Sabrina work along side of me at Kumon. I am a lucky man!

We strongly believe in education and believe that self-learning is a key component in life successes. Our children are testimonial to our life successes! I worked in corporate America for 30 plus years but always wanted to pursue an Education career and work with children. When I discovered Kumon, I realized this was my calling. We have been in business since September 2017 and hope we can help other parents and children with their own success stories!
