Josie’s Story

Josie

Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.

One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.

“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”

Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Words from a Program Completer

AJ and His Kumon Awards

It is without a doubt that our community, students in particular, have been through unprecedentedly challenging times during this global pandemic. With that said, I pride myself in not merely having adjusted to the new normal, but having done so effectively and resiliently. I found myself being mentally ready for anything that was thrown my way during remote learning: from being self-proficient in learning on my own, studying effectively in the absence of a classroom environment, having the discipline to manage my time and refrain from deviating from my academic coursework (which is quite obviously a challenge given the freedom of a home learning environment), to staying on track and keeping my focus on my academic goals.

I, of course, could not have done all these without a strong support system which I continuously have been provided with through my family and my Kumon instructor, Mr. Tran. I have always had a passion for Math and having enrolled in Kumon not only advanced that passion, but complemented it. I credit my years at Kumon for providing me with the tools to be a confident and successful learner, whether in the classroom or remotely; I give kudos to the discipline Kumon has instilled in me to be a self-proficient and effective student; and lastly, I thank my Kumon instructor Mr. Tran for believing in me and encouraging me to persevere in completing my Kumon Math program during challenging times; a testament to how Kumon can change a student’s life for the better and help place academic success within absolute reach.

Parent Testimony - Julissa

Julissa

My daughter was enrolled in Kumon in the summer of 2016. She was 9 years old and had just finished 4th grade and was doing well in school, but with summer on the way I was concerned that she will not remember or she will forget what she has learned. By far, enrolling her in the Kumon Program has been the best decision that I have ever made. I honestly wish I knew about the program sooner, because her confidence in school is really great and her grades are perfect.

What I like best about the program is independent work and practice.

Parent Testimonial: Aron

ARON

Our son Aron, started Kumon in Manteca when he was four years old, and he is now 8 years old currently studying fractions. Kumon helps our son to be confident even in school homework since he is ahead of the school curriculum. When Aron was in second grade, he received the award for achievement in Mathematics and Reading. In addtion, our son George started Kumon when he was just three years old, and he is now kindergarten. He can read books and do mathematics (additions) confidently. We are really appreciative and proud of Kumon, especially the instructor of Manteca Center, Mr. Tran and his team for the tremendous job they provide to our two children. Thank you!

Parent Testimony - Mrs. Kang

My daughter has been going to the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Manteca for a while now, and she loves it. She found it a little hard in the beginning but now she likes it. The Kumon Math program really helps her do Math more quickly and helped her stay ahead of her classmates in Math. She is also very good at mental math due to Kumon. The Reading program helps with grammar, reading comprehension, and introduces you to new texts. Now she is a A student at school. The staff at Kumon Manteca are very helpful and kind. You can tell that Mr. Tran really wants to see his students succeed.

David: Words from a former student

I like to begin with a brief background about myself, currently I am student at University of California Merced majoring in computer engineering. Currently I am in my second year, and every now and again I look back on how I came to be.

I always wondered how fortunate I am to be at a prestigious university, and I can safely say it is all because of Kumon. During my years in elementary school, I wasn’t doing well in school, so my parents decided to put me in Kumon. Initially, Kumon was exciting manly because it was a new experience, but that excitement degraded rather quickly. I wasn’t enthusiastic about the idea of having to do homework everyday, and as certain concepts grew challenging it became more of a chore. However, I saw that these tedious assignments were actually helping me and quickly got used to it. Before Kumon I couldn’t even round and now I am in upper division Calculus. I took Math and Reading in Kumon, and I have to say that it is well worth it.

The Manteca Instructor Mr. Tran goes above and beyond for his students, and ensures the best for them. Through the years (mainly in high school), I found myself being placed in higher classes as compared to my peers. These higher class made it possible for me to skip many of my college classes saving me thousands of dollars. Now I am just entering my second year and already I am ahead Bottom line: Parents if you considering put your kids in Kumon I highly recommend it. Students who are considering or being forced by your parents, it is not all that bad and it will help more than it is going to hurt. Remember results won’t happen overnight and it is a lot of hard work, but I assure you it is well worth it.

France's Story

With nearly a decade of experience as both a student and as an employee, I can affirm that Kumon offers a learning experience unlike any other. I am currently a second-year undergraduate student at San Jose State University majoring in Aviation and Technology.

I started attending as a math student in the second grade and had been a student until high school to which I became an employee. While I wasn’t a fan of doing homework everyday as a kid, all that hard work has gotten me ahead of my math classes for years. In addition, the homework and the consistent enforcement of the instructor and parents help build a strong work ethic that applies to subjects outside of math and reading. That said, the program is a give and take as students must show willingness to learn and dedication to the material.

The instructor is someone I’ve known for more than a decade and I wouldn’t have gotten this far in life without his guidance. Both Mr. Tran and his wife Mrs. Tran of a separate center are dedicated and passionate instructors that care deeply for the education of their students. Some see him as intimidating, but I think it’s because he believes that each of his students have the potential to do well in the program. His employees are thus an extension of his passion as he holds them to the high standards in order to receive the best help your kids deserve. Mr. Tran’s rigorous teaching style promotes independent thought and critical thinking skills that I personally found scarce in elementary schools until later grade levels. It’s a lot of hard work and results don’t happen overnight, but with the right attitude, anyone can excel through this program.

Words from an Early Learner Parent

Kumon has been a great contributor in helping my child to be successful in school. Through the help of her tutors and instructors, she was able to learn to perform at and above grade level. We are amazed at her ability to read now within just a few months. I would highly recommend their services for anyone who would like to ensure academic success in their child's education.

Advantage of Long Term Study

PACPACO

My 2 kids have been going to Kumon Manteca for Math Program for 9 years. It’s a big advantage as it really helps them a lot to be comfortable in Math at school. They also give awards to the kids which boost their confidence. We highly recommend Kumon.
