Kumon letter of thanks
Ms. Huma Ishaqui,
After reading the article posted in the NY Times dated 5/15/2011. I was inspired, and it brought me great pleasure as I reminisced about my first encounter with KUMON roughly 15 years ago. At that time, we lived in New Jersey, and my son was struggling in math. We decided to put him in KUMON, unfortunately, my husband and I gave into the whining and shortly after discontinued him in the program.
However, once our daughter started school who is now 14, we enrolled her in KUMON at the age of 6. We started her in the program for reading enrichment. The instructor at the time suggested that we assess her in math because she said our daughter was strong in reading. After the assessment we were told that she would be better served in math. So, here we are 8 years later in KUMON. As parents, we remained focused and endeared even with our daughter those early years of whining. My daughter has remained a strong math student and since middle school has been in accelerated math classes. As a parent, I can honestly say KUMON has been one of the best investments that we have made.
Many of my associates and friends with children who have needed tutoring and/or enrichment programs have tried many programs. Often staying away from KUMON because they believed it was rote learning. However, with no success they discontinued their children in those programs. Many of these children today are still struggling math students. When my daughter was in late elementary school, one of her friends asked if she was “special” because she was in KUMON. When entering high school this same child needed math support because she herself had a math deficit.
I speak on my own personal experience, but I know without a doubt, that KUMON saved me from homework night mares in math as well as, bad math grades and failing the infamous CRCT math exams. KUMON has given our daughter a solid math foundation and boosted her overall confidence in so many ways.
The accomplishments that my daughter has made in her young life are remarkable and I know that having her be a part of KUMON has added to her overall achievements. She will be a rising 9th grader this year and is now interested in getting a working permit so that she can someday work in KUMON. She is the same child who said every year, “Mom I am doing well in math when will I stop”. My comment was as always “we will talk about it next year”.
Many thanks to KUMON.

The Kumon Difference
My son started in December when he just turned 4. He kept asking when he could join his older sister at Kumon. By March he was sounding out sight words! I see how proud and excited he becomes when he reads a word he has sounded out. He is a more confident child. If I would have known the impact that Kumon had on him, I would have started him earlier!!
Kind Regards,
Teresa
