Testimonial

Ashwin Subramaniam

Ashwin Subramaniam of Matthews, North Carolina is not your average 11-year-old. He is among the youngest students in North Carolina to ever complete the Kumon Reading program.

Aswin’s parents enrolled him as a preschooler because they wanted to challenge their young son while ensuring he developed a love of learning.  Today, Aswhin is one of the top students in his gifted and talented class and has been recognized by Union County as an excellent student. His peers look to him for help in math and reading. He hopes to become a brain surgeon.

“Kumon  helped me learn at my own pace and improve my focus,” says Ashwin.  “My mom and Hina supported me everyday until I finished.”

Completing the program was a team effort. Each week Ashwin, his mother Sumi, and his Instructors discussed the materials and how to best help Ashwin reach his goal of program completion. Sumi would review her son’s work at home to ensure he was grasping the material without getting frustrated. There were challenges, like analyzing Shakespeare, and reading plays, but now Ashwin feels prepared for high school English.

“Your job as a parent is to be an example,” says Sumi of her work with Ashwin. “I saw Ashwin improve immediately once he realized we were all committed to his success.”

In his spare time, Ashwin enjoys reading, playing sports, and practicing the piano. His favorite book is the Harry Potter series and his favorite video game is Super Mario Galaxy.

Our Success Story

At Kumon, learning is a student driven activity. Many of our students are in the grade range between K through 12. And, their study material spans from pre-school through college level. By practicing everyday, and learning in small, manageable steps (with the help of our expert Kumon instructor), the student is able to build strong study habits and confidence. Our students strive not only for excellence in higher level math and reading but also to ultimately become independent learners. Our students include a first grader doing fourth grade level work; a second grader working at a sixth grade level and countless other students working as 1 to 2 grade levels higher than their current school grade. Call us and see how your child can become one of our success stories!

A Letter from Samantha, Tricia and Sabrina's Parents

Dear Mrs. Hina,
I am writing this to share the impact Kumon has had on our three daughters – Samantha, Tricia and Sabrina. All three are now or have been enrolled in both the Reading and Math Programs.

Samantha our eldest daughter struggled with math but Kumon gave her the confidence and knowledge to perform well in her math courses. She is wrapping up her sophomore year in High School and an Advanced Algebra 2 class and has a solid “B” grade, perhaps not the “A” her mother and I would want but considerably better than where she might have been without the benefit of Kumon. Additionally English has continued to be a strong subject for Samantha and this is in large part to the years building the basics in the Kumon Reading Program.

Tricia our middle daughter just completed 2nd grade and at the year end awards ceremonies received multiple awards. She was also on the all “A” honor roll for the year. She received the highest classroom averages for Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and scored the highest out of her class on the S.C. MAP testing for Reading. She is above grade level in both reading and math when compared to other 2nd grade students. Kumon helps beyond the math and reading courses; it provides a sound thought process that helps form a solid foundation that helps in all her studies.

Sabrina our youngest daughter just completed 1st grade and she too benefits from the math and reading focus Kumon provides. She is reading and has math skills beyond the 1st grade level. Our expectations are that as she progresses through grade school she will mirror the success our other daughters have realized because of Kumon.

The Kumon Program works but it requires our daughters and our commitment to the process. This is not always easy however if the ultimate goal is to provide the solid foundation to make schoolwork easier then Kumon works. We have seen our daughters grow and their grades at school outperform many of their classmates and we believe it is because of Kumon.

Thank you,
The Parents of Samantha, Tricia and Sabrina
