About the Instructor

Introduction

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

john

My name is John Riccio and I have been the Head Instructor of Churchill-Eglinton Kumon Centre since 1993.

As a professor at the post-secondary level for many years, I am very well informed about the education system. I specialized in Mathematics and received my Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto and Master of Business of Administration from the Schulich School of Business. I spent many years involved in the education system in Canada, as well as, in the development of a variety of education systems across the globe, including Asia, the Caribbean, Germany and Mexico.

Having two children in the elementary school system at the time I began my journey with Kumon, I was always looking for ways to best prepare them to be independent learners. This is when I discovered Kumon.

Kumon is not a tutoring program and that is what caught my attention. The program is individualized, based on each students' needs and abilities. The focus is to build a strong foundation of skills while increasing their confidence! Whereas tutoring programs focus on the present, Kumon's focus is always on building for the future, and in doing so, allowing the student to succeed every day along the way.

Our goal is to guide your child to achieve their highest potential and I look forward to meeting with your family to begin your child's Kumon journey.
