About the Instructor

Introduction

Hi, my name is Dave Merwin, and as an extensively trained and certified professional Kumon instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support, and encouragement. In addition to monitoring classroom assignments, I create an individualized at-home study plan emphasizing the accurate completion of assignments in a designated time frame. This helps students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a passion for education and a desire to help children succeed.

Biography and Background

I happily left behind a 15-year career in finance to pursue my dream of helping children. My love and appreciation of kids and their amazing curiosity has led me to Kumon. I believe in the Kumon Method and its potential to improve the work skills, confidence, and self-reliance of every child. My own five-year-old son is excited about beginning his own Kumon journey this summer, and I have witnessed how positive the effect of Kumon has been for my niece and nephew.

Training and Certification

After graduating from Boston University with a degree in economics, I began a career in finance in New York. For the past decade, I worked as a derivatives trader for a top European bank. The job afforded me wonderful opportunities, such as living and working in London for two years, which expanded my global business expertise and inculcated my desire to do something both personally rewarding and beneficial for the community around me. I believe children who enroll in Kumon not only improve their academic skills but also learn life skills that will ultimately benefit themselves and society.
