About the Instructor

Introduction

Kumon of Newtown is blessed with a father-daughter instructor team, Norman and Mary Kate Roos.

Mr. Norman Roos, the founder and original Instructor at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Newtown, has a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.  Recently, Mr. Roos left his high school teaching assignment to devote full-time to Kumon of Newtown.

Mary Kate has an intimate knowledge of the Kumon program since she was a Kumon student in both math and reading for several years as a child.  While a student, she also acted as a grading assistant.  Since the start of Kumon of Newtown in 2006, she has been an integral part of the classroom, acting as grader, then chief assistant, and now as instructor.

Both Mr. Roos and Ms. Roos are Certified Kumon Instructors, trained to offer the best in Kumon instruction to each student. This includes careful assessment of all homework and classwork for speed and accuracy to maintain the right level of challenge and to ensure that students attain mastery before moving on to each new skill. In addition, they work very closely with each individual student and his or her family to create the best study plan possible for the student, whether the need is for remedial assistance or for advanced study.
