My name is Sooyeon Kim, and I am a certified Kumon Instructor who has been managing another Kumon center in Lee's Summit for 7 years. My passion for education stems not only from a love of learning but also from a deep fascination with human behavior and motivation. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with a minor in French Language and Literature from Sung Shin Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. Subsequently, I earned my Master’s degree in Social Welfare (MSW) at the University of California, Berkeley in 2003 and served as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) until relocating to Kansas in 2010.
As your Kumon Instructor, I strive to understand each child's individual strengths, challenges, and motivations. This understanding has allowed me to connect with my students on a better level and have been able to cater an educational system that works for every one of my students. By creating a supportive and encouraging environment, I aim to ignite their love for learning and empower them to reach their full potential. I believe that my teaching style has been very effective in seeing my student’s growth.
Through Kumon, I have not only helped my students transition from the Individualized Education Program (IEP) class to regular class but also advance students to 4years ahead of their grade level. The parents of my students often express satisfaction with the service I offer, and some have even recommended my program to their family or friends. I've also had the privilege of both witnessing and leading numerous program completions in both our math and reading programs. These students haven't just excelled academically: they've triumphed in various facets of their lives. My aspiration is for every student under my guidance to experience the profound advantages that Kumon has to offer.
My family and I share a strong passion for education. My husband is a professor at the University of Central Missouri, and our son has completed the Kumon Math and Reading Programs, currently attending the University of Chicago majoring in Data Science and Economics. His two younger siblings in elementary school in Overland Park are also Kumon students. Like yourselves, my husband and I have been Kumon parents for many years, understanding the challenges students and parents may encounter during their studies.
I am confident that my personal and professional experience and knowledge will motivate and positively impact your child’s math and reading studies.
