About the Instructor

Introduction

Hello Parents & Family!

Thank you for visiting our website. My name is Mark Folkmann, and I am the Center Director of Kumon Math & Reading of Perry Hall.

The best part of the Kumon program is getting to know all types of people while serving as a mentor to their children. As a Kumon student once myself, I understand that school is not always easy, especially when it comes to math and reading. We all need accountability! Here at Kumon of Perry Hall, we strive to be good mentors leading students in the right direction. Kumon is not a short-term solution, but a long-term plan designed to increase self-confidence as well as self-learning skills. Our center has some of the best and most passionate assistants of all different backgrounds with an earnest desire to help children succeed.

I welcome you to explore this website as well as all the Kumon literature we offer. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or better yet, set up an orientation where we can meet in person to talk more about the Kumon Program! My e-mail address is [email protected]

Biography and Background

Profile

I was born and raised in Maryland, specifically in Baltimore County. Like many children of immigrant parents, education was a huge part of my life and it was held of highest importance. When I was in elementary school, my parents enrolled me into the Kumon program for both math and reading in which I tended to struggle more with math at school. I could see the benefits of Kumon early on in which I excelled beyond my expectations, even increasing my confidence with other subjects. The most important life lesson the Kumon program taught me is that I, myself, need to take charge of my education as tutoring is only a short-term solution to a lifelong journey.  The Kumon philosophy introduced me to a brand new way of learning and studying through self-study and personal growth. It was after my time at Kumon I was given the proper study skills to excel in college, where I matriculated to The George Washington University in Washington, DC. It is a great honor to come back as a Kumon Director years later to help the Kumon students of today achieve their goals in and out of the classroom.
