About the Instructor

As an extensively trained and certified professional instructor, I serve as a mentor who guides your children through their work while also providing direction, support and encouragement. I create an at-home study plan in addition to monitoring classroom assignments, and I emphasize the importance of accurately completing each assignment within a designated time frame. This has helped many of my students increase self-confidence, thus becoming more self-reliant. Like all Kumon Instructors, I have a true passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed.

An Instructor with passion.

My name is Kevin McQuarrie, and I am the proud Instructor of our Pickering West Kumon Centre. 

Ever since I was young, the concept of academic development has always run in my blood. My mother and father - a Math teacher and a Safety Instructor, respectively - had always taught me the value of putting the needs of others before my own, and therefore I have always loved helping others to learn and be their best selves.

I had envisioned myself becoming a high school teacher one day, specifically to teach Mathematics, Biology, or Chemistry. While looking to build my resume, I began working in what I then-though was a local tutoring centre but turned out to be far more than that. I learned first-hand from a Markham Kumon instructor, Mrs. Limin Shu, what this 'tutoring' program was all about and how it went far beyond the scope of classic tutoring. I began to really study the program and developed a true passion for it, and after several years of becoming more and more engrossed in it, I decided to pursue the Kumon Franchise as my own career path. Everyone had always advised me to pursue my passion, and so I did just that! 

I graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, with a minor in Psychology as well. Immediately after graduating, I began my training at the Kumon North American headquarters in Teaneck, NJ, and became the Instructor for our Pickering West Centre in February 2016.

I spend my free time with my amazing wife, Emma, and our two children, Jade and Mason. My family is the light of my life.
