Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Rose's Story
Rose is 9 years old, studying five years above her grade level. Rose is in the third grade, having begun her Kumon Journey when she was just 4 years old.
When I first met Rose she was a shy, charismatic, young girl eager to learn new things, but nervous to branch out. Every day when Rose walked into my center she would stand by the door, afraid to walk alone, in need of someone to guide her to a seat. Rose began her Kumon career at our earliest levels for both math and reading.
Over the years Rose has blown us away with her dedication to learning, her willingness to try new material, and her ability to persevere through hardship. In these five years Rose has gone from a young early learner, reliant on others, to an independent third grader now working many years above grade-level mastery in math. While Rose's peers are working on the basics of multiplication, Rose is working on introductory algebraic concepts resembling 7th-8th grade material. Rose has been an absolute joy to watch grow at the center, and is a great example of the benefits of starting the Kumon program at a young age. She is well on her way to achieving all of our milestones, having already achieved our Gby4 award (starting 7th grade material before the end of 4th grade). Soon she will achieve our Jby6 award (Starting 9th grade material prior to ending 6th grade), J completion award, and I am hopeful she will be able to fully complete the math program before the end of her middle school grades! I look forward to continuing her progress here, and I hope she serves as an inspiration to all of my students!
