Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

His Eyes Light Up!
As the parents of a 6-year-old son, his happiness is our greatest concern. When he feels defeated or frustrated because he doesn’t get it or he doesn’t believe that he can do something we know he can, it crushes our souls. But when he sits down with his Kumon Instructor and grasp the concepts and his little eyes light up from the excitement of not only understanding what he's being taught but being able to apply it during his daily reading and math assignments is the most priceless benefit of the Kumon model. And the patience exhibited by the Instructors is the cherry on top of the Sundae. Thank you for the joy of learning.

Only 3 years old
I enrolled my daughter in Kumon shortly after her 3rd birthday at the recommendation of my sister who had enrolled my niece in the program as well. My goal was to hopefully give her a head start as we prepared for pre-k. Since being in the program, my daughter’s vocabulary continues to grow. Many people don’t realize she is only 3 years old. Shortly after enrolling, she was spelling her first and last name for anyone who would listen. I’m excited that she is writing and recognizing most of her alphabets. Even with her short attention span, the consistency of the program has taught her to focus on her work in the moment. The staff at the Kumon Pooler Center have allowed her to be her energetic, talkative self while teaching her the fundamentals needed to start reading. She is so thrilled to be learning new things and I am confident she will be ready when she enters “big girl” school.

We Are Thrilled
We are thrilled to have our child take classes at Kumon. The attention to detail and the level of interest that the teachers take in their students is remarkable. They take the time to understand the needs of each student and adapt their teaching style accordingly. Needless to say the COVID-19 pandemic presented a real challenge in 2020. The teachers at the Kumon stepped up to the plate and offered virtual learning as the world grappled through the impact of this grave pandemic. We specifically want to recognize Ms. Janese, as she is an exceptional teacher. She cares for her students and is vested in the growth and development of her students. Even when the classes couldn't be in person in 2020, Ms. Janese checked in with our child and ensured that we were getting the assignments. She is in touch with us regularly and is always available to answer any questions we may have. We could not be happier with the entire staff at the Kumon. THANK YOU for all you do!
