Head Instructor - Lan Ye
Ms. Lan began her education by graduating from medical school in China where she earned her Ph.D degree in Neurobiology. She continued her education by working for eight years as a researcher in the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University. Ms. Lan also worked for more than four years as a scientist in Astellas Pharma. For almost seventeen years, Ms. Lan has worked in the field of neurological changes of learning and memory and their related diseases.
When her own child reached school age, Ms. Lan decided to become a Kumon Instructor. In 2014, she became a certified professional instructor and the owner and Instructor of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Raleigh - Northwest. Since then, she has surrounded herself at the center with a mission to help children acquire critical math and reading skills necessary to become successful lifelong learners. Ms. Lan is extremely passionate about education, the Kumon philosophy, and enjoys working with the entire student population at her center.
Early Learner Assistant - Karen Flowers
Ms. Karen began her education by receiving a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Kindergarten-Primary Education. She continued her education by receiving a M.A. in Early Childhood Education. Ms. Karen taught in the public schools in St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands for ten years. She continued her teaching career in the public schools in Monroe County, Florida (The Florida Keys) for twenty-two years. She currently has a valid teaching certificate in the state of Florida. She also has experience in tutoring in several private tutoring situations throughout her career.
After retiring from the Florida Public School System, Ms. Karen wanted to continue to tutor young children. She was also interested in learning a new method of instruction. Kumon is the perfect match for her!
