James's Story
"I never lose, I either win or learn" - Nelson Mandela.
Never give up. Many times during my progress of Kumon, I tell myself there is no way I can make it to the end. But you just have to keep trying because, without working hard, there is nothing to gain. After a few years, I finished reading, and encourage other people to never give up on their hopes too.
Thank you Ms. Yvonne for everything in helping me finish all the reading levels!

What do you enjoy most about Kumon?
I enjoy many things about Kumon, for example, it taught me how to analyze a text, I was able to read many books that I've never even heard about and it also improved my vocabulary. If I had to pick my favourite thing about Kumon, I would pick the feeling of satisfaction that comes with it. Whenever I pass a test, get everything right on a packet of worksheets or even just finish the worksheets in record time, I always get that same happy feeling. That feeling got me to try and work harder to achieve it.
What are some of the activities you enjoy doing outside of school and Kumon?
Two activities that I enjoy doing out of school and Kumon are reading and listening to music. I like reading because whenever I'm reading, I feel like I was transported to a whole new place that's totally stress-free and I can just watch the characters live their lives without even worrying about mine. I like listening to music because it calms me down. It also helps me concentrate when I'm doing homework and it makes me feel relaxed.
What is your favourite book and why?
My favourite book is The Wishing Spell. The Wishing Spell is about two twins, Alex and Conner, who find a magic portal to the fairy-tale world and they need to find the Wishing Spell to go back home. I like this book because first of all, I really like fairy tales. Also, in the book, there are many characters from fairy tales, for example, Cinderella, and it shows you what happened to the fairy-tale characters after their stories. Another reason I like it is that it incorporates all those fairy tales while telling a new story, which I think is very hard to do.
