Ved's Story

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Ved. I am currently in preschool. I am taking Math and Reading classes at Kumon.
I love swimming, skating, and reading books – especially books by Dr. Seuss. I also enjoy watching the news with my mom. Lester Holt is my favorite news anchor. I wish to become a judge when I grow up so I can help our country.
What first brought you to Kumon? What did you hope Kumon would help you with?
Ved was very much inspired by his big brother’s academic achievements and wanted to join Kumon just like his big brother had at age four so he could sharpen his academic skills. Ved was very eager to learn how to read and write. Ved: “Thanks to Kumon, I can read Dr. Seuss books myself. I also enjoy reading billboards when I travel with my mommy.”
Did Kumon help you reach your goals?
Yes. With the help of Kumon, Ved is now able to read his books independently.
What have you gotten good at since coming to Kumon?
Ved has become more organized and independent since he started Kumon. Before Ved started Kumon, he was not able to concentrate for more than a few minutes. Kumon has helped him increase his attention span.
What are some things you like about coming to the Kumon center?
Ved: “I love Kumon because it is helping me to learn addition and reading. I also made new friends because of Kumon. I love my Kumon teachers because they are so nice to me and give me a prize when I finish my level. My Kumon has a small library and I love to borrow books from the Kumon library.”
Please share a favorite Kumon memory.
Ved: “My favorite moments are getting prizes and certificates for my hard work. I love to make my mom and teacher proud.”
Has Kumon helped you at school or other places?
Kumon has helped Ved to excel in his academic skills at school by increasing his confidence. Before enrolling in Kumon, Ved suffered with anxiety and lack of self-belief. However, with the help of Kumon he has gained confidence in his abilities. Every time Ved is learning a new concept at Kumon, he repeats to himself, “Keep practicing. Practice makes you perfect.”
Would you recommend Kumon to other students? Why?
Ved’s mom: “I highly recommend Kumon to other students – especially enrolling students in Kumon at a young age so that they can strengthen their motor skills, decision-making skills, critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and gain self-confidence. I also believe that young learners like Ved will greatly benefit from Kumon as it helps them become more organized and more disciplined.”
