About the Instructor

Introduction

Welcome!

My name is Mable Suen, and I am the certified instructor at Kumon Center of San Francisco – Diamond Heights.

In addition to providing guidance, support, and encouragement to my students as they complete class work at the center, I create individualized at-home study plans to ensure that each student makes steady and meaningful progress in our program. I believe that helping children to develop the characters and skills to become self-driven, independent learners not only enables them to succeed academically, but also empowers them to take on new challenges and pursue their dreams in the future.

Biography and Background

My Kumon Journey

I received my elementary education in Hong Kong and completed high school in San Francisco. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, I started my career at the California Department of Transportation where I gained experience in project development, transportation planning, highway design, and construction.

Through my volunteering work as a Sunday school teacher and my involvement with my own children’s school and extracurricular activities, I found my passion in education and an earnest desire to help children improve and thrive. I began to explore a career change after working for more than a decade as a licensed Professional Engineer.

I was a dedicated Kumon parent before becoming an instructor myself. My interest in the Kumon Learning Method and curriculum grew as I witnessed my own children develop strong math and reading skills, self-discipline, confidence, and independence in this wonderful program. Their amazing progress motivated me to complete the extensive training to become a certified Kumon Instructor and Center Director.

Since opening my center in 2009, I have been enjoying my Kumon journey, helping students to achieve their goals and realize their potential in our program, at school and in other areas of their lives. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to contribute to education and am grateful for the trust and support of parents and teachers in our community through the years.
