3. Payment:
3.1. Tuition via ACH must be paid seven business days before the start of each month through electronic funds transfer.
3.2. Late payments will result in delays in lesson planning and will incur a late payment fee. Please ensure sufficient funds are available for tuition payment seven days before the first of the month.
3.3. If you are unable to make a one-time payment, please email [email protected] to arrange an alternative payment plan with the center's administration.
3.4. If a termination notice is received with less than 30 days' notice, one month of tuition via ACH will be applied to cover the final month.
3.5. In the event of tuition adjustment, at least one month's notice will be provided.
4. Kumon Class Time:
4.1. Students are expected to arrive on time for their scheduled classes.
4.2. Late arrivals may result in missed instruction and disruption to the class.
4.3. If a student arrives more than 15 minutes late, they may be asked to reschedule their session.
4.4. Please inform the center three days in advance by email if you anticipate being late.
4.5. Make-up classes may be available, subject to availability and center policies.
4.6. Adherence to the class schedule ensures the best learning experience for students.
4.7. Kumon restricts any staff from escorting children to the restroom. To fully utilize the 30-minute session, please ensure your child uses the restroom and is hydrated prior to class.
5. Full Month Program:
Enrollment operates on a month-to-month basis, and no partial monthly discounts are granted except during the initial enrollment month. Students are obligated to uphold daily Kumon practice, including holidays and vacations. Parents must provide a minimum of seven days' advance notice by email for absences lasting the whole month.
6. Monthly Classes:
6.1. Students shall receive a standard allocation of eight classes per calendar month, each class consisting of 30 minutes per subject lesson, scheduled twice weekly.
6.2. No provision for makeup classes shall be offered in the case of student illness.
6.3. Makeup classes will not be arranged for holidays.
6.4. A customary two-week winter recess, occurring annually, shall entail the closure of the classroom, during which no makeup classes will be offered.
7. Vacation or Discontinuation:
7.1. One month's advance notice must be provided in the event of transfer or discontinuation. If a termination notice is received with less than 30 days' notice, the tuition deposit made at enrollment will be applied to cover the final month. In accordance with Kumon Policy, absences of greater than one month require re-registration at a cost of $80 per student. Reassessment may also be required.
7.2. Parents must provide a minimum of seven days' advance notice by email for homework pick-up during absence.
8. Sick Leave:
Make-up classes may be available, subject to availability and center policies. If a student is sick, parents should email the school on the same day to request homework pick-up. If the email is sent by 3:00 PM on Friday, the homework can be picked up by 9:00 AM on Saturday. If the email is sent after 3:00 PM, the homework will be ready for pick-up by 1:00 PM on Monday. Parents should drop off the completed sets of homework for grading when picking up the new sets of homework. The instructor needs to assess the student's progress and to prepare the next lesson based on the completed homework. No homework will be assigned without an email request.
9. Schedule Changes:
Parents can request a schedule change once every quarter. In the event of a schedule change, please send your preferred time and day of the week by email at least three days in advance. The new schedule is subject to the availability of the center.
10. Kumon Conduct:
Students shall be treated respectfully in the Kumon classroom and shall behave respectfully toward their instructor, classroom tutors/aides, and other classmates. If a student is not capable of behaving appropriately in the classroom, the instructor shall attempt to coordinate with parents/guardians for the necessary behavior change; however, the instructor reserves the right to temporarily or permanently dismiss a student who is not capable of managing their conduct, and no refund shall be provided.
11. Security:
11.1. The facility management provides regular security patrols throughout the complex to ensure a safe environment. Additional Security Measures: Due to our downtown location, additional security measures are implemented to cover all students’ activities. Our center is monitored by two security cameras recording video images and audio to enhance safety and security. By entering Kumon Santa Cruz, parents are consenting to the recording in progress.
11.2. Zoom Session Recordings: All Zoom sessions conducted by the center are recorded for security purposes.
12. Open Classroom:
Please remain nearby to receive your child immediately after class. We are unable to ensure that all children are paired with their guardians upon departure. Please coordinate pick-up arrangements clearly with your child as we cannot detain them in the classroom. When in doubt, we will ask them to remain in the lobby area, and we are not responsible for students who leave the classroom.
13. Home Study:
Similar to practicing musical instruments or coaching athletes, Kumon requires consistency and dedication for maximum benefits. Please reserve a distraction-free place for Kumon’s study time to occur daily. Depending on your child’s age and Kumon level, homework may range from ten minutes to thirty minutes per subject per day. Early learners and new students will require support as they complete their homework worksheets; however, the goal is for all Kumon students to become independent learners.
14. Kumon Journey:
For Kumon to be successful, the student must be willing to learn and complete their assignments as scheduled, the guardian must be supportive of the student’s Kumon home study and class time, and the instructor must provide thoughtful lesson planning. Periodically, the instructor will request a conference, either by phone or in person, to discuss your child’s progress.
15. Homework Arrangement:
15.1. Kumon North America establishes guidelines on homework assignments.
15.2. Parents are welcome to consult the instructor for a certain set of homework for the week.
15.3. Parents are responsible for all completed work returned to students. No duplicates will be issued for assessed worksheets.
15.4. Students must return all incomplete worksheets to the center.
16. Refund:
Students must complete all assigned worksheets. No refunds will be made for incomplete or unsubmitted work.
