About the Center

Introduction

At Kumon Santa Cruz, we take immense pride in the success stories of our students, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to their academic achievements. Serving as a hub for excellence, we are honored to be the home of the Champions for the 2021 and 2022 Santa Cruz County Math Contests and the recipient of the esteemed Rotary Scholarship.

Our tutorial center has cultivated a strong track record, supported by glowing references, and we are dedicated to nurturing the academic growth of children aged 3 to 15. It brings us great joy to share a recent accomplishment from one of our second graders, who has already achieved level F in Math, involving the four operations of fractions. Additionally, in the realm of Reading, a student with the same age has reached level D, with a focus now shifting towards paragraph development. This accomplishment not only showcases the student's exceptional abilities but also underscores our commitment to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment. We believe in recognizing and celebrating the unique strengths of each student, fostering a love for learning, and empowering them to reach their full potential.

Our commitment to academic excellence extends beyond achievements to encompass an unparalleled learning environment that sets us apart. Many new parents have expressed their amazement at our classroom management, recognizing it as an ultimate learning environment rarely found in today's conventional education. In our classrooms, every student spends a dedicated 30 to 60 minutes, walking out with not just newfound knowledge but also a boost in confidence and the development of transferable skills. We understand the importance of creating an atmosphere that fosters both academic growth and personal confidence. We welcome all interested parties to visit our center and witness firsthand the unique and effective learning environment we provide. Our classroom setting is completely transparent to all visitors, reflecting our commitment to openness and the success of each student.

At Kumon Santa Cruz, we are dedicated to transcending conventional education, providing a transformative experience that equips students for not only academic challenges but also the demands of life beyond the classroom. Our focus is on preparing students to navigate and excel in the future competitive world, an environment that may differ from what parents have experienced.

4.5. Make-up classes may be available, subject to availability and center policies.
4.6. Adherence to the class schedule ensures the best learning experience for students.

5. Full Month Program:
Enrollment operates on a month-to-month basis, and no partial monthly discounts are granted except during the initial enrollment month. Students are obligated to uphold daily Kumon practice, including holidays and vacations. Parents must provide a minimum of seven days' advance notice by email for absences lasting the whole month.

7.2. Parents must provide a minimum of seven days' advance notice by email for homework pick-up during absence.
8. Sick Leave:
Make-up classes may be available, subject to availability and center policies. If a student is sick, parents should email the school on the same day to request homework pick-up. If the email is sent by 3:00 PM on Friday, the homework can be picked up by 9:00 AM on Saturday. If the email is sent after 3:00 PM, the homework will be ready for pick-up by 1:00 PM on Monday. Parents should drop off the completed sets of homework for grading when picking up the new sets of homework. The instructor needs to assess the student's progress and to prepare the next lesson based on the completed homework. No homework will be assigned without an email request.
9. Schedule Changes:
Parents can request a schedule change once every quarter. In the event of a schedule change, please send your preferred time and day of the week by email at least three days in advance. The new schedule is subject to the availability of the center.

If a student is not capable of behaving appropriately in the classroom, the instructor shall attempt to coordinate with parents/guardians for the necessary behavior change; however, the instructor reserves the right to temporarily or permanently dismiss a student who is not capable of managing their conduct, and no refund shall be provided.
11. Security:
11.1. The facility management provides regular security patrols throughout the complex to ensure a safe environment. Additional Security Measures: Due to our downtown location, additional security measures are implemented to cover all students’ activities. Our center is monitored by two security cameras recording video images and audio to enhance safety and security. By entering Kumon Santa Cruz, parents are consenting to the recording in progress.
11.2. Zoom Session Recordings: All Zoom sessions conducted by the center are recorded for security purposes.
12. Open Classroom:
Please remain nearby to receive your child immediately after class. We are unable to ensure that all children are paired with their guardians upon departure. Please coordinate pick-up arrangements clearly with your child as we cannot detain them in the classroom. When in doubt, we will ask them to remain in the lobby area, and we are not responsible for students who leave the classroom.
13. Home Study:
Similar to practicing musical instruments or coaching athletes, Kumon requires consistency and dedication for maximum benefits. Please reserve a distraction-free place for Kumon’s study time to occur daily. Depending on your child’s age and Kumon level, homework may range from ten minutes to thirty minutes per subject per day. Early learners and new students will require support as they complete their homework worksheets; however, the goal is for all Kumon students to become independent learners.
14. Kumon Journey:
For Kumon to be successful, the student must be willing to learn and complete their assignments as scheduled, the guardian must be supportive of the student’s Kumon home study and class time, and the instructor must provide thoughtful lesson planning. Periodically, the instructor will request a conference, either by phone or in person, to discuss your child’s progress.
15. Homework Arrangement:
15.1. Kumon North America establishes guidelines on homework assignments.
15.2. Parents are welcome to consult the instructor for a certain set of homework for the week.
15.3. Parents are responsible for all completed work returned to students. No duplicates will be issued for assessed worksheets.
15.4. Students must return all incomplete worksheets to the center.
16. Refund:
Students must complete all assigned worksheets. No refunds will be made for incomplete or unsubmitted work.
