Kosaku Nakamura is a Japanese-American with a long-standing 25-year family history with the Kumon Learning Center brand. Even before that, having lived in Japan for half his childhood, he had the chance to see the Kumon learning method from the very country of its origin. “Growing up in Japan, I knew a lot about the programs and had first-hand knowledge of how it worked with several friends.”
After his family moved to America, he was then inspired by his mother, who first started working at various Kumon Centers over two decades ago. He started assisting at centers a few years after graduating from New York University, magna cum laude. He has since put forth his higher education and experience with Kumon to open up not one, but two centers of his own as a Certified Kumon Instructor.
Kosaku opened his first center in Scarsdale (East), New York in 2004 with his second center now in Glen Rock, New Jersey since 2011. Over the past decade, Kosaku has grown his enrollment to about 500 students total in both centers to date. In addition, his centers are known for the number of actual student “completers” who stay for the entire length of the Kumon program.
Many of Kosaku’s students have scored high-yielding results in standardized tests in both NY and NJ, including even one recent student with a perfect math score on the NJ ASK. Over the last decade, he has also sent many students onto Ivy League schools.
At both centers, a total of three subjects are offered: Math, Reading, and Japanese.
Now life has come full circle, with Kosaku heading up two centers, employing his mother in both, and seeing his own child, niece and nephew now benefiting from the Kumon method as stellar students at the Kumon Glen Rock center.
Kosaku hopes to see you and your family at one of his centers as he strives to maintain the proven excellence of the Kumon tradition.
