Biography and Background

Instructor_Candice-Lee

The Kumon Center of Sherman Oaks - East is owned and operated by Candice Lee. This center was previously owned by her mother, Ms. Vickie, for 25 years before she took over. Growing up as an instructor’s daughter, Ms. Candice spent much of her life in various Kumon roles. She was a Kumon student, completed the Math & Reading Programs, and worked as an assistant for several years under Ms. Vickie at three Kumon Centers (including this location). She later built her own career as a corporate financial controller for ten years before she returned to her Kumon journey as an instructor herself. Her varied experiences with Kumon operations enables her to understand all the aspects of a Kumon Center and be able to connect with her students, her assistants, and her own role as an instructor.

My vision for this center is to create a balanced learning environment where my students can develop and hone their internal motivation to learn, and enjoy the process. My approach as an instructor combines the Kumon Method to strengthen students’ learning fundamentals, and equally provides individualized guidance using positive-reinforcement to build their intrinsic desire to become better self-learners. My hope for each student is that they learn to push themselves to be better and do more because they want to, and not because they have to. This willpower will rise with their increasing self-confidence. Though they may take time to develop, these traits of self-motivation and resilience are sustainable tools that will serve them well beyond their school years and throughout their adult life. My personal core values are individualism, self-integrity, empathy, and perseverance. Naturally, my teaching style with students will reflect these.” -Ms. Candice
