Josie’s Story
Josie is 10-years-old, studying three years above her grade level in the Kumon Program. In fact, she’s studying the same math material that her mom, who is an eighth grade teacher, teaches her students. Imagine that, a 10-year-old transforming equations, working with linear functions and simplifying monomials and polynomials. She’s well on her way to advanced algebraic expressions and she isn’t even in middle school yet.
One of the things that Josie likes most about Kumon is the fact that she’s studying above her grade level.
“Kumon gives me confidence because I know how strong of a student it has made me,” says Josie. “I know that I can do and learn anything if I do the work and practice daily. Kumon has taught me about the importance of focusing and to not be afraid of challenges, but to enjoy them and work through them because I know I can overcome anything.”
Josie embodies everything that Toru Kumon had in mind when he founded the Kumon Method. He felt that students would experience the true benefits of the Kumon Method if they acquired the study habits necessary for self-learning and advanced study.

Shivani's Success Story
My parents enrolled me at Kumon at the age of 3, and at the moment I did not know the impact Kumon would have on my life. Even from a young age, I constantly wanted to improve and move up the levels. I strived to complete my homework after busy days at school, instilling skills of dedication and perseverance within me. Kumon inspired me to academically push myself at a young age, something that translated into the classroom at school. I was able to easily recognize math concepts and apply my reading skills, enabling me to excel at school. From taking gifted math courses in elementary school to Advanced Placement and College Level math and reading courses in high school, the foundation Kumon provided proved to be invaluable. As a high school student at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, I returned to Kumon as a worker, where I gained new perspectives and skills. I saw my younger self in the next generation of students and appreciated Kumon from a new light. As an assistant, I learned the value of communication and patience, which helped me grow into a stronger leader and person. Today, I am proud to be a Kumon student, as it has been such an integral part of my life these past 15 years. As I attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall, I am excited to see how the skills I gained from Kumon can flourish in a new environment.
